Mountain Biking

In our city, life is fun on two wheels. Whether you want an adrenaline-charged gravel race or a leisurely autumn ride through floating leaves, Buena Vista delivers.

An Award-Winning Trail for Laid-Back Cycling

Named to USA Today’s 10 Best Recreational Trails in America, the Chessie Trail is a seven-mile rails-to-trails project that meanders between Buena Vista and Lexington. Plan for serene scenery, meadows awash in wildflowers, and plenty of opportunities to get off your bike and enjoy some trailside birding or wildlife.

A Gravel Race with Big Views

For those who love to climb, shred, and zoom, Buena Vista is home to races like Gravista – a challenging gravel course offering 30-and 60-mile distances with punishing climbs… and breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountain views. Depending on the distance, participants can climb some 100 feet of elevation for every mile, adding up to an epic adventure with a well-earned party at the finish line. The course is just one example of the exhilarating rides in and around Buena Vista.
