THE CITY OF BUENA VISTA

The City of Buena Vista, Virginia is governed by a six-member City Council and a Mayor, all democratically elected by the citizens for four-year terms. These officials provide direction and oversight, guiding the City Manager, who acts as the chief executive officer, in managing the day-to-day operations of Buena Vista.

In addition, the City’s governance includes various boards, commissions, and committees. These bodies serve as vital channels for citizen engagement, fostering participation and providing valuable perspectives, expertise, and collaborative strategies to address the multifaceted needs and interests of the community.

Police protection is provided by 14 dedicated officers, augmented by the City’s Sherriff’s office and state police personnel. Further emergency services are provided by a volunteer fire department and rescue squad.

A democratically elected school board is entrusted to govern and enhance educational opportunities for its residents. For more information on Buena Vista Public Schools, visit www.bvcps.net.
