• Reporting Crime: If you have need to report a crime, contact Buena Vista Police Department or, in an emergency, call 911.
• Civil Matters involving the City of Buena Vista: Our office prosecutes criminal matters arising in the City of Buena Vista. For civil legal matters involving the city, please contact Joshua O. Elrod, jelrod@bvcity.org.
• Legal Counsel regarding the Commonwealth of Virginia: Although the commonwealth’s attorneys represent Virginians in court, they do not provide legal counsel to the state government. This is the role of the Attorney General of Virginia, who is elected by the state’s voters every four years.
• Private Legal Matters: Commonwealth’s attorneys also do not provide legal counsel to individual citizens on private matters. Citizens in need of legal assistance may call the Virginia State Bar Referral Service at 800-552-7977.
