Nestled on the sunset side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Buena Vista welcomes you to our peaceful bend of the Maury River – a place of quiet hiking trails, favorite fishing holes, music festivals in the park … and a downtown where locals know each other by name.

Our History

Founded in 1892, our city is proud of its hardworking history. Once upon a time, Buena Vista’s landscape was dotted with tanneries, industrial mills, and factories. Today, our can-do attitude lives on, and we believe the best is yet to come. Together we’re planting trees, restoring historic shopfronts, opening brand-new businesses, and cultivating a community of art, culture and creativity. Come join us as we build a bright future.

Whether you’re looking for a basecamp for outdoor adventure or yearning to slow down for a spell, Buena Vista is the place. Grab a bite in one of our hometown eateries, browse an art gallery on Magnolia Avenue, stroll Southern Virginia University’s picturesque red brick campus, go for a hike at Glen Maury Park … or head to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a leisurely drive under the stars.
