Our Beginnings

The Buena Vista Police Department was established in 1893 and is one of the oldest police departments in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is the only police force in the City of Buena Vista and provides law enforcement services for the City and its surrounding areas. The police department is a full-service agency and is committed to providing professional service to the community.

The department first achieved state accreditation in 2018 and continues to proudly maintain the standards of excellence established by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission.
